Why I love Liane Moriarty books
I only just recently discovered the author Liane Moriarty sometime in the beginning of 2018. The first book I read from her was Big Little Lies and I couldn’t put it down. I was so thrilled to see that she had written several other books and I read about half of them. I truly enjoyed every single one of the books that she’s written. She has become a little more well known, especially since her novel Big Little Lies was turned into a show on HBO starring extremely popular actresses such as Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dern. I know. I can’t believe a show exists with some of the best actresses! As if that’s not enough, they are already preparing a second season that will include the one and only, Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep, if you ever read this, please be my mom.
For those that don’t yet know who Liane Moriarty is, she is from Sydney, Australia. The first book she had ever gotten published was Three Wishes in 2003. She actually was inspired to get a book published when she found out her sister, Jaclyn Moriarty, was getting one of her own books published. Nothing helps motivate like good old fashioned sibling rivalry. Since then, Liane has sold over 14 million copies of her book worldwide that have also been translated into 39 languages. So clearly, I am not the only one who is obsessed with this author.
Now I am sure you are wondering, what makes her books so captivating? While I resent the stereotype that all women love drama… I have no problem admitting I LOVE DRAMA. Not in my personal life of course, let’s keep that boring. I love hearing about other people’s drama. My husband knows that I live for chisme (gossip) and when he hears anything particularly juicy, he has to come home and spill that tea. Liane Moriarty always manages to come up with so much drama in her books, from cheating husbands, to backstabbing friends, to crazy stalkers, to family feuds. Any and everything I can possibly dream of is always in her books. Every time I read one of her novels, I always share the drama with my husband and sometimes I get so invested he thinks that it’s one of my close friends whose husband is cheating on her with her sister’s boyfriend’s sister. Yes, that actually happens in one of her books.
I would absolutely say her books are my guilty pleasure reads. When I am reading I know I wouldn’t wish these things to happen to anyone I know… but that doesn’t stop me grabbing her latest novel and immersing myself in a world of someone else’s crazy. Once I discover an author I love, I am loyal to them for life. So Liane Moriarty, right now I am your ride or die fan. I have yet to finish reading all of the books written by Liane, but I am looking forward to the incredible drama I know she always successfully delivers.
